Digital Humanities Workshop

Verena Kick

Friday, October 10, 2014 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Denny Hall 308

In the past 5 years, DH scholarship, pedagogy and collaboration has been thriving in a way that even the job market has picked up on it, starting to look for applicants that have a connection to DH one way or another. In conjunction, the MLA has also responded to the prominence of Digital Humanities and published “Guidelines for Evaluating Work in Digital Humanities and Digital Media,” last updated in December 2013. Thus, this workshop intends to initiate and continue a discussion about Digital Humanities and its relevance for Germanics.

This workshop for faculty and graduate students aims to

 -  discuss definitions and values of DH (and its connection to literature and media)

 - evaluate DH projects (using the MLA guidelines)

 - examine various tools for digital research, collaboration and pedagogy

 - give an overview of DH training offerings and DH graduate certificates, UW’s emerging DH network, and possible starting points for a DH project

At the beginning of fall quarter, I will provide you with short readings/excerpts about DH. Since I know that some of you are involved with DH and/or have encountered DH projects, please don’t hesitate to share them ( so that we can discuss them during the workshop.
