What is Trans Literature? Narrative Form and Trans Embodiment (German 592)

Introduction:
What is trans literature? In this course, we not only read recent fictional texts that deal with transness, but we also ask critically how we read these texts and what are the material conditions of contemporary trans literary production. The course is divided into different sections which respectively discuss questions around reading methods, trans authorship, genre and trans literary history. Primary texts include Torrey Peters, Kyle Lukoff, Zeyn Joukhadar and Alex Di Francesco. Secondary readings, among others, by Stryker, Salah, Lavery, Awkward-Rich, Gill-Peterson, Pelligrini, Kay.
