The Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards (OMSFA) assists UW undergraduates in developing the tools and personal insights necessary to compete for merit-based scholarships. OMSFA provides information on merit-based scholarships, both local and national, for which UW students can apply, and offers general resources and advising for individual students through the scholarship search and application process. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Congress that annually provides 75 American and 75 German Young Professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each others' countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program. The program is open to candidates in all career fields who are interested in a year of cultural exchange. Candidates for CBYX for Young Professionals must:
- have U.S. citizenship or permanent residence
- be between 18 and 24 years of age at the start of the program
- possess a high school diploma
- exhibit clear career goals and some relevant experience in their career field (experience can be work, internship, or volunteer)
- have a strong interest in German and international affairs, as well as a strong sense of American identity
- be flexible, independent, and diplomatic
The German Academic Exchange Service sponsors scholarships for study in Germany. Seniors, alumni, graduate students and recent PhDs are eligible to apply. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research/artistic projects or English Teaching Assistantships in over 150 countries worldwide, including Germany. Grants provide round trip airfare, living stipend and health insurance for approximately 8-12 months of study/research/English Teaching in the host country. Details and requirements vary by country. Graduating seniors and Bachelor’s alums are encouraged to seek application support and details from OMSFA. The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program is a distinguished transatlantic initiative that each year offers twenty accomplished young Americans the opportunity to complete a comprehensive 9-to-12 month professional development program in Germany. Candidates for the Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program must meet the following requirements:
- U.S. citizen
- 23–34 years old at the application deadline
- Graduate degree preferred; at least two years of relevant work experience in business administration, journalism, law, public policy, international relations, or related field;
- Bachelor's degree holders should have approximately five years of relevant experience
- Evidence of outstanding professional performance and community involvement
