1. The Hans Neurath Foundation was established to recognize and support exceptional research in protein science. |
2. Beginning in 2015, the Foundation sponsors eight Hans Neurath Outstanding Promise Travel Awards. The aim of the awards is “to showcase future leaders of the field by recognizing graduate student and postdoctoral researchers who have demonstrated exceptional potential through the quality of their research and to enable them to present their abstracts at the 29th Annual Symposium of the Protein Society in Barcelona, Spain, July 22-25, 2015. Winners receive up to $1,500 in travel award funds, a $500 cash prize, an invitation to publish in the Protein Society's journal Protein Science at no cost, a complimentary 10-year membership in the Protein Society, and are presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement during the Plenary Awards session on July 25th, 2015.” |
3. Every year, the Foundation sponsors the Hans Neurath Award, which “seeks to honor individuals who have made a recent contribution of exceptional merit to basic protein research.” The 2015 recipient is Dr. Marina Rodwina (Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen). |
4. In 1983, ZymoGenetics and the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Washington established the annual Hans Neurath Lectureship “which has brought luminaries to the School of Medicine for two decades. ZymoGenetics, a Seattle biopharmaceutical firm, was founded in 1981 by two University of Washington faculty – Earl Davie, Professor of Biochemistry, who was himself a postdoctoral fellow with Neurath, and Benjamin Hall, Professor of Genetics – together with the late Michael Smith, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia and a 1993 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for site-directed DNA mutagenesis.” |
5. In 2015, in memory to his father, Peter Neurath established a Hans Neurath Endowed Chair at the Biochemistry Department at UW. |
