General Information
The Internship in German offers students the opportunity to do internships in public institutions or private businesses to apply their German language skills in practice. It is anticipated that the internship experience will provide a valuable tool to further increase the students’ communication skills in the German language, to explore and test potential career options, and to specify or expand study goals. Ideally, the Internship in German will serve to enhance and further the students’ educational and professional objectives.
Registration Requirements
Students register for German 446 - Internship in German.
Credits: 2-5 for one quarter with a maximum of 10. Five credits can count toward the major. Credit/no credit only; registration in advance.
Secure approval and signature of Internship Field Supervisor, Faculty Sponsor and Chair or Undergraduate Adviser before requesting registration entry code at the Department of German Studies Main Office, Denny 360.
Internship Paper
Initial proposal, short interim report and 5-10 page final report written in German by student on practical activity with German (Swiss, Austrian) language, literature or culture (broadly defined and) experienced as intern.
Evaluation
Written evaluation by employing agency sent to sponsoring faculty member or departmental adviser.
In order to receive credit for the Internship in German, a student must receive a satisfactory evaluation from the Internship Field Supervisor and a passing grade from the Faculty Sponsor.
