Following the success of last year's event, the department was again pleased to offer young scholars the opportunity to present their work to colleagues, peers, and interested parties at the Spring 2012 Graduate Student Conference, Acceptance in German Literary and Visual Culture. Presentations at the two day conference explored notions of acceptance in a broad sense, focusing on the mechanisms by which texts and images codify, accommodate, and instrumentalize difference. Conference participants included master and doctoral candidates from both Europe and the United States. The keynote address was presented by Doctor Volker Mergenthaler and was entitled "Die Regeln des Spiels und das Spiel mit den Regeln: 'Nine Eleven' und die deutschsprachige Literatur."
