Japanese Delegation Visits UW

Submitted by Ellwood Wiggins on

A group of faculty members from a variety of disciplines ranging from the humanities to the sciences, all from Waseda University in Japan, visited the University of Washington in March 2014 for a period of three weeks. There were attending a workshop on pedagogy and were able to visit and observe ongoing courses and events. The colleague in German, Professor Shizuo Ogino, was a guest in a variety of different language and literature courses including a seminar on opera and film. He also came to a faculty meeting, gave a lecture on Mozart at the Allen Auditorium, and interacted with our faculty and graduate students in a number of different venues. On weekends and evenings, Professor Ogino and his wife explored the UW campus, downtown Seattle and surroundings including an visit to Whidbey Island, and they went to the opera to experience Menotti's The Consul. We are thankful for being able to share with international visitors the beauty of our environments and the intellectual climate that make teaching in Germanics such a privilege.
