Dear Germanics Department,

After receiving the generous Lufthansa Award from the Germanics Dept upon graduation, I moved to Munich, where I am currently living. I recently completed a Master of Music degree in Jazz Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Since my second year of studies at the HMTM, I've also been teaching (as Lehrbeauftragter) jazz piano and jazz harmony/composition in the Hochschule's department of Komposition für Film und Medien.

In addition to that, I've assembled a piano studio of nearly 25 private students, and I perform regularly in and around Munich at various jazz clubs and concert halls.

Here's a link to a video of me playing my arrangement of a Simon & Garfunkel tune at Munich's Steinway Haus this summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocJA2OeiKho

Munich has truly been very good to me, and I've been on the receiving end of more opportunities here than I could have ever expected! And that is really all thanks to my wonderful experience at UW's Germanics Department, which prepared me so well to live, study and work in Germany. Thank you!

Liebe Grüße aus Bayern,

Sam Hylton
