Much has happened for me since graduating from the UW Germanics program and from the Jackson School of International Studies in 2011.
I have been living in Berlin since the fall of 2011, where I have worked in (higher ed and primary) education, journalism, and German-English translation. I received my Master's degree from the Free University Berlin in Social and Cultural Anthropology. I also began a popular blog on multiculturalism and diversity politics through the lens of Berlin called Collidoscope Berlin. Through this blog, I was able to publish an article on successful integration initiatives in Berlin in Syracuse University's SoJo journal. I also translate exhibitions, materials, and conference proceedings for the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, one of Berlin's only museums dedicated to immigration and diversity in neighbhorhood perspective.
This past January, I co-founded the first ever open, free online course on migration called Migration Matters. Our aim is to educate the public for a more nuanced, evidence-based debate. We are an e.V. based in Berlin.
In May 2016, we won the Advocate Europe prize (a funding program from the Bosch Stiftung and the Stiftung Mercator). In June 2016, we won a Big Ideas grant from the London School of Economics. We continue to produce bite-sized video courses on common questions and concerns related to immigration and belonging in the European Union.

I continue to work as a translator for academic publications and research institutions, for cultural houses, and for public programs.
I also enjoy teaching German as a foreign language. I spent the 2015-2016 academic year bouncing between Berlin and Portland, OR, where I taught for an immersion German program at the Sophie Scholl Schule. I aim to become a certified DaF instructor in 2017.
