I recently went to Vienna for vacation and was instantly reminded of Rick’s Vienna 1900 course, when I got fascinated with Vienna’s rich and complex cultural history. Years later the insights I gained through his careful teaching still resonated deeply within me and made the visit to many cultural sights and places in Vienna so much more engaging. Rick’s teaching and careful guidance has not only taught me how to become a more perceptive researcher, but an inventive and effective instructor, a professional path which I have followed in the years to come.
I enjoyed the great luxury of having Sabine and Rick at my side during my first semester as a faculty lecturer at Harvard, which was so important for navigating the at times challenging experiences of my first academic appointment. Since then, I could always rely on Rick’s support and mentorship in my various professional endeavors, which ultimately led me back to Berlin after exciting job opportunities in the U.S. and Canada. Therefore, I am very much looking forward to seeing Rick and Sabine this year in Berlin and to many thoughtful discussions to come! Thank you again Rick for all your help over the years!!!
