Sabine Lang is a professor of European and International Politics at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. She directs the Center for West European Studies and chairs the European Studies Program. Her research focuses on political representation, civil society, and gender in Europe with a focus on Germany and the EU. She is currently co-editing a Special Issue  for the journal German Politics on Leading from Behind? Gender Equality in Germany During the Merkel Era. Fun fact: One of her co-editors is professor Phillip Ayoub (Occidental College), a former UW Germanics student who, in 2002, was attending one of the first classes that Sabine taught at UW. She has also recently co-published a monograph on Gender Equality in Politics. Implementing Party Quotas in Germany and Austria (Springer 2020) and has co-edited a volume on Gendered Mobilizations and Intersectional Challenges (ECPR Press/Rowman & Littlefield 2019). She has directed the fall quarter CHID/JSIS study abroad program to Berlin for many years and hopes to do so again in the future.
