The Department of Germanics at the University of Washington offers a new Master of Arts in Pedagogy and Culture. This new two-year program is truly interdisciplinary. Students take courses in German studies, second language acquisition, and curriculum design from departments and programs across the UW College of Arts & Sciences.
Students are trained in language pedagogy with a focus on communicative language teaching and task-based instruction under close mentorship of Professor Klaus Brandl, the director of the German language program. They gain practical experience by teaching German language courses at the beginning and intermediate level.
The MA in Pedagogy and Culture prepares students for
- 21st century learning environments that employ communicative, innovative and research-supported teaching strategies, learning technologies and real-world applications.
- advanced degrees in education and in Applied Linguistics.
We offer a two-year teaching assistantship to qualified applicants.
