COVID has prevented many of us from traveling this past year.  As an alternative, the Department of German Studies is offering a summer course focused on a virtual exploration of Berlin.  German 399: Zoom on Over to Germany- Ich bin ein (Virtual) Berliner will focus on the art, music, food, history, and people of Berlin.  A guest speaker from the former DDR will provide their perspective on life in East Germany, and a classical pianist will give us insight into both the traditional and the modern music scene in Berlin.  She will also provide a private performance for us at the end of her talk!  A cooking expert will tailor an online cooking course for our group, so that we can sample a culinary speciality from the region.  We will also have the opportunity to 'attend' other virtual performances and readings, and engage in discussions in small groups.  No matter where you are Zooming in from, we can all take part in the shared experience of traversing this city, utilizing interdisciplinary materials, technology, guest speakers, and innovative online resources as our passport to virtual travel.  In this unique way we can create an immersive summer trip abroad and learn more about the German culture in the diverse and exciting metropolis Berlin.

Please note: Zoom on Over to Germany- Ich bin ein (Virtual) Berliner has been canceled for summer 2021. Please check back with Kye Terrasi for updates.

This spring, Dr. Kye Terrasi organized an online Book Talk: Berlin - Seoul - Berlin with Miriam Stein and a  conversation about Transcultural Approaches to Europe with Fatima El-Tayeb.
