Hi everyone! My name is Melissa, and I’m excited to be part of the University of Washington’s German department this year. I’m originally from Germany, where I completed my Master’s in Educational Science, French Literature, and Linguistics. I previously worked as a teaching assistant in Reims, France, a beautiful city located in the Champagne region. Now, thanks to the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) program, I have the opportunity to teach German 101 at UW. It’s been an incredible experience so far, and I’m really enjoying trying out different teaching methods in the classroom.
Before joining UW, I worked in the corporate world with Bosch and Zeiss, focusing on digital learning, which deepened my passion for education technology. I have a strong interest in digital learning, second language acquisition, and translation, and I’m always looking for new ways to enhance the language learning experience.
Outside of teaching, I’m loving my time in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. There’s water everywhere – a dream come true for someone who’s always wanted to live near the beach! The stunning hiking trails, the rich natural beauty, the friendly people, and, of course, the amazing seafood make this region an absolute gem to explore.
I’m looking forward to connecting with you all and sharing more of my journey!
